Over 30 new and enhanced features in first Epicor iScala software service release

Introduced in May, the first service release (SR1) of the latest version of the iScala® Collaborative ERP system includes a wide range of new and enhanced business functionality. The table below outlines what has been added as a new feature and which current iScala features that have been improved, as well as how you can benefit from using them.

Feature Description Benefit Is the feature new or improved?
Customer Relationship Management - iScala CRM
Sales Process Integration Users can work with Leads and Opportunities using the MS CRM environment. While entering an Opportunity, users can assign various items to an Opportunity (for example: products, services, time activities, cost activities, etc.). The system will then send a request to iScala where price, currency and discounts calculations are performed according to iScala settings and this information is sent back to update the Opportunity. This user interaction between iScala CRM and iScala ERP happens as one process for the user.

In order to accommodate the concept of a “Complex Solution Order” (when a company sells not only finished products, but related services, or where they may have to manufacture the product; and this is not known to a sales person when they first register an Opportunity), Opportunities get converted into various types of orders via iScala’s Customer Request, which is a snapshot of an Opportunity. In SR1 we can handle the Sales Order type.

Users can generate Sales Proposals using Microsoft Word 2003 templates. They can keep track of all versions and store changes made to proposals as well as populate proposals with customer and product data from iScala.

  • Better visibility into the pipeline and across sales activities.
  • Improved quality of leads and closure rates.
  • All customer related information and activities are stored in one place. You get a complete view of your customers!
  • Integrates with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office: e-mail time is less; reports can be exported into Excel.
  • Standard reports are fast and easy.
  • Your sales people will love it. It requires minimum training and the interface looks like Outlook. Therefore, using iScala CRM you will achieve high end user adoption rates and can get up and running in production operations in weeks, not months.
  • Out-of-the box integration with iScala ERP, so if you are an iScala ERP customer, you do not have to spend time on integrating applications, but focus on improving your customer relationship processes.
  • The integration with iScala ERP allows you to access iScala’s rich sales order management and fulfilment functionality, including inventory visibility, multi-currency, VAT and local legislation.

Developer Toolbox
The Developer Toolbox is a package for developers containing products required to customize iScala, including the development of fully integrated new code. Although the products within the toolbox have been available individually in earlier releases, the User Interface Designer and Workflow Designer have been improved and the Toolbox re-packages all of these products to simplify the offering.
User Interface Designer Consists of two parts:
  1. Screen design with intuitive drag & drop design environment
  2. Business logic behind the screen where you define how the links into the screen elements should work.

The tool generates multiple screens in one process, such as Web, Windows and Portal.

  • Enables the customer to define screens that match their requirements in terms of layout, field visibility, security and logic.
  • Opportunity for partners to ad value to the solution they offer their clients.
  • Specific customer needs can be more closely matched.
New
Workflow Designer This allows the developer to graphically map the business process, assign events that should take place inside the process and integrate with the iScala managers.
  • Enables the customer to define process workflows that match their requirements, thereby potentially simplifying processes, improving staff effectiveness, reducing process cycle times, reducing errors and improving profitability.
  • Specific customer needs can be more closely matched.
New
VBA Developer This enables a developer to customize iScala using VBA.

Note: printing is handled through the Document Deployment Server (see below).

  • Enables the customer to tailor iScala logic to their needs.
  • Opportunity for partners to ad value to the solution they offer their clients.
  • Specific customer needs can be more closely matched.
Improved
VBA Automation Manager Provides a run-time environment for projects developed using the VBA Developer.
  • Enables customers to use VBA customizations without having the cost and performance overheads of the VBA Developer environment.
Improved
Document Deployment Server This enables a developer to customize printing and the routing of printouts.
  • As VBA Developer but specifically related to iScala printing logic.
Improved
iScala Manager Software Development Kit (SDK) The Software Developer Kit provides a development framework, including documentation, guidelines and examples of how a partner can create their own managers and attach them to iScala schemas.
  • Enables developers to be more productive, and work on new customizations faster.
New
Business Toolbox
The Business Toolbox is a package for consultants and business people containing products required to customize Scala, including reports, queries, screens and simple behaviour. Although the products within the toolbox have been available individually in earlier releases, the Toolbox re-packages all of these products to simplify the offering.
iScala Web Reporter Web based reporting with same look and feel as iScala, including language and access handling. It is based on Crystal Enterprise 9, which provides UNICODE support. Crystal Enterprise is included when you buy this product.
  • Enables customers to distribute reports via the web, reducing distribution time and costs.
Improved
iScala Crystal Reporter This is Crystal Reporter 9, which offers UNICODE support. It is also the graphical design environment for the iScala Web Reporter.
  • Enables customers to create customized reports that match their requirements, improving the usability of the system.
Improved
iScala Crystal Analysis Crystal Analysis enables the publishing of data from OLAP cubes to both Windows and Web environments.
  • Enables customers to gain access to iScala data for ad-hoc enquiries.
Improved
iScala Query Designer The new version of iScala Query Designer contains new security functionality and links to Crystal Reporter, enabling the user to maintain database linking in the Query Designer instead of doing it on a database and table level in Crystal.

Another new feature is multi company access, which allows a user to create reports that span multiple companies in a singe query.

  • Enables customers to gain access to iScala data for ad-hoc enquiries.
  • Instant and quick access to business critical information.
Improved
OLAP The OLAP generation tool can generate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the SQL Analysis server, and those KPIs can then be used in Crystal Analysis or iScala BI Web Parts.
  • Enables customers to gain access to iScala data for ad-hoc enquiries.
Improved
iScala BI Web Parts iScala BI Web Parts uses Microsoft Sharepoint 2001 and 2003 or Coreport and allows a user to publish KPI information on a portal. It also contains a simple analysis tool, or you can easily integrate it with tools like Powerplay.

Two new features in this release include the pie chart and gauge controls.

  • Enables customers to publish iScala information quickly and efficiently to a wide or selected audience via a web portal.
  • Will give you a snap shot of your business instantly on very high level but still allowing you to drill down to more details if required.
Improved
User Interface Designer Used to change the layout of existing screens. The user cannot add new fields or change the business object logic behind the screen.
  • Enables the customer to define screens that match their requirements in terms of layout, field visibility and security.
Improved
Workflow Designer In the Business Toolbox version of the Workflow Designer the user can only change the events of existing processes. The user cannot create new workflows or add external managers that didn’t exist in the workflow from the beginning.
  • Enables the customer to adjust existing workflows that match their requirements to simplify processes, improve staff effectiveness, reduce process cycle times, reduce errors and improve profitability.
